1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit our website. They help the website function properly, analyze visits, and remember your preferences.
2. Which cookies do we use?
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the operation of the website. Without these cookies, certain features cannot work, such as logging in, remembering your progress, and securing your session.
Functional cookies
These cookies remember your preferences such as language settings and previously entered data. This means you don't have to set your preferences again each time.
Analytical cookies
With your consent, we use analytical cookies (via PostHog, EU-hosted, and Google Analytics) to understand how visitors and users use the website and app; PostHog stores this data in both a cookie and localStorage. Through PostHog we also create heatmaps (where people click on a page and how far they scroll) and session recordings (a replay of mouse movements, clicks and scrolling). In those recordings all text and all input is masked and uploaded documents and previews are not captured, so the content of your contract, your analysis or your personal data does not end up in them. As long as you are not logged in, this is not linked to a personal profile; after logging in, we link this to your account to improve our service. We only place these cookies if you switch on analytics cookies. We do not sell this data and do not use analytics data for advertising: Google's advertising signals are always off.
Marketing cookies
If you switch on marketing cookies, and only then, we can use Meta Pixel to measure whether an advertisement leads to a started check, a completed check or a paid check, and to show relevant ads later. Automatic advanced matching and automatic form or button detection are disabled. We do not send names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, contract content, report numbers or payment references to Meta. The Trustpilot review widget also falls under marketing cookies. Consent to analytics cookies does not count as consent to marketing cookies.
Partner recognition (localStorage)
If you arrive on our site via an affiliate partner's link (e.g. a rental-assistance service or comparison site), we store the partner code in your browser for 30 days (localStorage key hc_affiliate_ref). This identifies only the partner, not you personally, and is used to credit the right partner if you later register or make a purchase. No visitor profile is built from this.

4. Managing cookies
You can manage your cookie preferences in several ways:
- Cookie banner: On your first visit, you choose via the cookie banner whether you allow analytics cookies, marketing cookies, both or neither. You can change your choice later with the Cookie preferences button.
- Browser settings: In your browser, you can block or delete cookies. Consult your browser's help function for instructions.
- Specific opt-out: For analytical cookies, you can set opt-out directly with the service provider.
Please note: blocking necessary cookies may affect the functioning of the website.
5. Third-party cookies
We use a limited number of external services that may place cookies:
- PostHog: EU-hosted product analytics, heatmaps and session recordings with masked text and input. Linked to your account after login to understand how the service is used; not resold or shared with other parties.
- Google Analytics 4: Website statistics from Google Ireland Limited: how many visitors the site gets and which pages they view. This script loads only after you allow analytics cookies, and always without Google Tag Manager. Google may process this data on servers outside the EU.
- Meta Pixel: Advertising measurement and retargeting through Meta Platforms Ireland Limited. If we use the pixel, it loads only after you allow marketing cookies. We do not use advanced matching or send contact details, addresses or contract content to Meta.
- Trustpilot: Shows HuurCheckie reviews through Trustpilot A/S. The widget loads only after you allow marketing cookies.
- Mollie: For payment processing. Mollie only places cookies during the payment process.
We use Meta Pixel only after consent to marketing cookies. Without that consent, Meta Pixel does not load and no events are sent to Meta, even if you allowed analytics cookies.
6. Updates to this policy
We may update this cookie policy from time to time. The last modification date is listed at the top of this page. In case of significant changes, we will inform you via the website or by email.
